Evening School Project PDF Print E-mail

This project is focused on adopting poor rural children aged 5-20 who are not able to go for education because of poverty. Many of these children are bonded labourers or are going to be forced to be bonded labourers and participate in the child labour industry.

In Tirunelveli district the people are mostly beedi rolling workers, cooliee workers, sex workers, or agricultural workers. Many of them live well below the poverty line which means there is no income to send their children for education.

In order to survive, they are sending their children to work so they can get some money as an advance. Therefore, there is no education or sustainable earning. In many cases, the girls are forced to become sex workers.

This creates lot of problems. Some of the most pressing problems are:

  • Lack of education
  • Unawarness about education, employment and children's rights
  • High rate of unemployment
  • Young girls being forced to become sex workers
  • High level of poverty
  • High instances of life-threatening diseases without treatment options
  • Lack of sustainable livelihoods

Aim of the project

The goal of this project is to establish an evening school to give orphans, street children, underprivileged children and disabled children a better chance in life through providing educational support and motivation, skill games, free tuition and the establishment of a literacy program.

How CHAP helps children & youths

To help combat the above mentioned problems we collect such disadvantaged children in each village and start an evening school (tuition centers). We also ensure they go to school, become educated, gain awards, find their areas of interest and train them to engage in sustainable livelihoods.
